A week back when I got an email from someone who is close to my heart, my joy knew no limit & It just made me think of how we met and the way we instantly got connected. It made me smile and of course cry. I just thought to myself “how lucky I was to have you as part of my life, you will always be in my heart & how special you are to me. Although it’s a super-long wait, I've grown more and more head-over-heels in love with you”. Also, “You are the one I always dreamed of, and I am so grateful to call you my companion. And I want you to know how much I appreciate everything in you. Thank you for being such a strong, companion. You are my jewel, and I love you more than I can say”.
Well, before my wife (G3) kills me, let me tell you that I am referring to my new bike “Royal Enfield Signals”. There is an age-old funny saying that never marry a man who has Royal Enfield. But maybe it’s too late for G3…
Finally, my long wait to own mighty beast is over when I came to know that RE has decided to launch classic with “ABS”. After I brought the beast to home, the first thing G3 asked me is how much mileage does this give. And all I could say is “Never ask a man his wAGE, to woman her AGE, and bullet’s mileAGE”
Well, while riding on my all new dark demeanor across the street, I could see every other head turning and as we go past them and stay “turned” for a while. This beast is looking stealthy, modern and really Haunting as if someone has done a spell of black magic on it. I just felt almost like the Ghost Riders bike without fire. This classy vintage retro military attire that truly uses the actual association of Royal Enfield with army spanning over 65 years of course is indeed motorcycling in “purest form”.
Although Simple classy and vintage styling has always been there forte, one thing that touched my heart and moved my soul is the theme of our very own brave and courageous Indian armed forces that defined the signal series which is why it almost gives me goosebumps. “Signals” is indeed a tribute to the Legacy of the resilient machines that have been serving in the Indian Army for several decades now and getting the same DNA in the production motorcycles & this is something we all should take pride in as fellow Indians. It is designed with beautiful craftsmanship and impeccable design to detail, The Rings are painted in black the headlamp gets the all mighty treatment, the handlebar now comes in black the exhaust is painted in all black and looks quite cool. the engine gets in all black theme and overall finish seems very impressive as such
The clutch feel is awesome and the gear shifts are quite convenient. Thanks to the heel to toe gear shifter. And once we climb up the RPM the bike is much smoother & that's what I have expected from this retro classic tourer. this is not a sports bike to expect ballistic top end but what has always worked and will always is the magical feel that Royal Enfield offers & sometimes it is not about the speed but riding slowly but with pride, this is how our Royal Enfield’s are...This vintage feels the right blend of modern elements. And trust me the Pride of owning an Immortal machine , the richness that defines the age old Legacy of this brand & the crude and raw feeling simply underscores the spirit of true motorcycling. For me, it is the same feeling that i get when I listen to unplugged music having absolutely no synthesizers, no programming, no digital effects or voice filters. Just pure music that sounds divine. (Perhaps G3 can relate to this more than me). Now, signals offers that divine feel & No matter what, you do an instinctive turn when you hear the signature RE THUMP
Times may change and several bikes may come and go but Royal Enfield will always be something special. The motorcycle that touches your heart and moves your soul. Simply put Royal Enfield bikes are like Michael Jackson music people listen to this music century down the lines irrespective of new innovations. And it’s such a pride feel that even after you own a Royal Enfield, the next bike you want to own is another Royal Enfield.I am sure even my grandson/granddaughter would like to drive Royal Enfield when they grow up. And just when I shared this news with my brother, he was excited to spend some time with this beast during my absence in the city next month. As they say, “You don’t trust anyone with your Royal Enfield, not even your own kid” ;)
Cheers,
Adi
