It was again raining today. As I see from my window, I could feel the earthy scent from the dry soil. I felt a pang- a strange inexplicable pang that I had never felt before. It was nostalgic feeling bringing back my good-old school days. I should say, I was lucky to be in the same school for ten years and hence school was my second home. Knowing almost all my school mates and teachers personally made me feel at home. It was during those days that I found my best friends for life. Friends with whom I grew up, who were partners in all the silly crimes I committed and who were always there for me to rely upon.
Our school was really liberal and hence was very notorious too. With all-round development and more of fun, we could choose our area of interests. Thanks to our teachers who made learning fun by coming up with all innovative ways to impart knowledge. SUPW (Socially Useful & Productive Work) classes were the best for each of us & we used to feel bad when it ended and that was the only class for which we used to wait with super excitement. However, whenever it rains, we somehow used to get some free time, which we used to spend playing, cracking jokes, or just merely telling each other beautiful stories. So, in a way rain used to play a significant part in our school days and it always brings back roller coaster of memories down the lane.

I still vividly remember that one fine day, I was supposed to read news (in Hindi) on stage and since I can only get the latest news the morning hours, so immediately after receiving the newspaper I started preparing for it and just then I saw showers of rain turning into pouring’s and it was evident that there will not be any assembly and so I was confident that my reading of news would be ruled out. However, now that I had started preparing anyway, I somehow scribbled down the headlines but didn’t give enough heed to it and requested my dad to drop me off to school for which he kindly nodded as it was raining and I, with fully loaded raincoat and cap started to school. As in the case of destiny, the moment I stepped in our school rain god showed mercy and stopped all the showers. And we still had full good 15 minutes for assembly prayer. It is then, when I thought to myself “Destiny: what have you done to me is not fair”. The worst thing is neither could I find replacement nor could I deny at the last moment.
With whatever I have scribbled in the last moment, I tried to find out some meaning as I was being choice-less to read it on stage. Finally, after the prayer and instructions my name was being called to read the news. With expression “which cannot be termed” I went on to the stage and stood before the mike and started to read the news slowly because I knew I had less content to speak about. However, no matter how slow I spoke, within a minute I had completed reading my lines and before ending I was supposed to read the climatic details as in temperature etc. while I was recording the news early that morning I just wrote 36 degrees Celsius. However, since it was supposed to be read in Hindi, I was expected to say 36 in Hindi which I didn’t knew. So, on the stage, I was speechless and was trying to comprehend and interpret the language translation before a crowd of all students from class 1 to class 12 including principal and all teachers. So, you can imagine my situation there and finally after a long 15 seconds struggle I had to give up and address it as 36 degrees Celsius (in English). This was the most embarrassing moment for me, as I was a victim of my own unpreparedness. And even till day this moment brings laughs on my face
The thought of those things excites me to relive all those days again. Over the years, the experience we had was priceless. Learning things the fun way and being full of the joys of spring was just amazing. The friends I made those days are my best friends for life. Knowing one another for more than a decade, growing up together, committing all silly crimes and having similar interests builds the strongest bonds. Those were the days. Full of fun, frolic and education, those days make us feel nostalgic forever.
Cheers,
Adi :)
